O'machi is now attending at ADC, the most important part of the project is the Android application, but actually the whole concept of O'machi life is deeply depending on the server side functionalities, such as profile/contacts/Memo sync, background sync, just-in-time notifications of friends' status and RSS subscription updates on both cell phone and GTalk. We believe that people will enjoy Android-based cell phones in the future, however, cell phones are not the only stuff that could connect people to the world; emails, instant messages and browsers are the other popular tools in the modern world as well. Therefore, we develop O'machi to be the personal information tool and also a social platform that provides users not only the way to maintain their mobile data in the web site, but also a platform to connect with their friends by GTalk, Email and browsers.
On O'machi server side, we have web server, sync engine, GTalk robot, Android Intent sender/receiver, RSS feeds collector and a social networking engine. So, besides the efforts on the Android application, actually we have been taking quite much efforts on developing the O'machi server. There are 5 people in jCoolMobi team, 1.5 manpower on Android application and the other 3.5 manpower on the sever side. Yes, the guy who took care of the 0.5 manpower on both sides was me :). Maybe this is not a pretty good tactic to develop an application for ADC by this way, since the judges might only pay attentions to the Android application, and we spent less manpower on this side. The reason is that I think we need to build up a firm enough infrastructure for O'machi service first, and then we can put more novel ideas into the service easier in the future. We develop O'machi not only for ADC, but also for fun and the future. Anyway, hopefully we will have chance to show our future ideas in ADC round 2.
